How to 360 in the Halfpipe

This is how to do a 360 in the halfpipe from Fall Line Skiing. Before doing this trick you should be able to Straight Air and preferably but not crucially 360 on a Kicker. You should also be able to ride Switch.

  1. Ride up the Wall just as you would for a straight air
  2. Timing for the pop is crucial, if you pop to early you will loose all your momentum. Pop when you get to the top of the pipe or when you as high up the wall as you are going to get.
  3. As you pop you need to turn your head and shoulders hard into the rotation, this will initiate the spin, Again do not do this too early.
  4. How to 360 in a Halfpipe pop

  5. Keep looking round past your landing so that you are facing back up the pipe, this will mean that you have done a 360. Unfortunately it also means you are landing switch and you cant see your landing aswell.

  1. Fist off Start small, you won’t be able to just ride into the halfpipe and get 10 foot of air straight away, start lower down and work your way up the wall as your confidence, skill and feel of the halfpipe increases.
  2. You should be carving up the wall at an angle facing slightly down the halfpipe, if you go straight up the wall you will loose all speed.
  3. How to straight Air in a Pipe angle

  4. As you ride up the wall, keep your weight 90 degrees to the wall(Don’t lean back!).
  5. As you get to the edge of the halfpipe or almost to a stop(whichever comes first) you need to pop and turn your head and shoulders down back into the pipe, your legs will follow and you should land facing down the pipe again at a slight angle.

How to drop into a Pipe on Ski’s

This is how to drop into a pipe on Ski’s with with Fall line Skiing. A basic but fundamental trick to be able to do in order to ride pipe well.

  1. Start off dropping in at the beginning of the pipe where the transition is smaller and it has less of a distance to fall if you mess up at all(we all do sometimes!).
  2. Start by riding along the edge of the pipe at a relatively slow speed, this gives you the most time to think and control what you are doing.
  3. How to Drop into a Halfpipe Skiing

  4. Focus on where you want to drop in and when you get close, turn very slightly towards the pipe. this will set you up for the drop in.
  5. How to Drop into a Halfpipe

  6. Just before you ride over the edge(The tips of your ski’s should not be over the edge yet) pop a very small ollie into the pipe. This is less of an ollie and more of sucking your legs up over the lip of the pipe. So as you pop a small ollie, suck your legs right up and lean forward to get yourself and your ski’s parallel to the wall of the pipe
  7. Now because you have sucked your legs up you will have been able to do a smaller ollie, then enabling you to stay closer to the wall of the pipe.
  8. How to Drop into a Halfpipe Suck Legs

  9. As you go over the lip of the pipe you can then extend your legs again to contact the wall again and ride down the wall. As you ride down the Wall push up from your legs to generate power and speed(called pumping)
  10. How to Drop into a Halfpipe Pumping

  11. As you do this more you will be able to get a feeling for the amount you have to pop to land higher up the wall, the higher you land up the wall the faster you can go and the higher you will get out of the other side of the pipe.
  12. Have fun, It is a great feeling when you get the timing an pop just perfect.

How To 360 on Ski’s

This is how to 360 on ski’s with Fall Line Skiing. You should be able to 180 and preferably Switch 180 Before doing this trick.

  1. Run up to the Kicker with a good amount of speed to comfortably clear the knuckle.
  2. As you get to the lip of the Kicker you want to rotate your upper body as you would for a 180 but with a bit more power behind it to give you the extra spin. You should time this so your upper body has started the spin before you pop, your legs will then follow.
  3. How to 360 on ski's

  4. You will now be looking back at the kicker but if you keep looking you will spot the landing again just like a switch 180.
  5. How to 360 on ski's

How to Backflip on ski’s

This is How to Backflip on ski’s from Fall Line Skiing. This trick is all about commitment, it is actually very easy.

I suggest being able to backflip on a trampoline beforehand as it will give you the confidence and the feel of doing a backflip, but in a safer environment.

  1. So you need to run in just as you would for a straight air, plenty of speed and a nice wide stance.
  2. Wait till you get to the lip of the kicker before jumping else you could knock yourself out on the Kicker! A good tip is to focus on jumping upwards and not backwards, if you can backflip already this will be a natural feeling.
  3. How to Backflip on ski's

  4. Do the flip! Lead with your head and your body will follow. If you are on a small jump and are tight on time then tuck your knees up for extra rotatory speed, else just lay back and chill out.

How to Handplant on Ski’s

Here is how to do a Handplant on Ski’s. This can be dome on any thing from a quarter pipe to a steep mound of snow to a wall ride so is a great show-off trick.

You need to find a good feature to try this on, generally the steeper the better as it will help push your legs up in the air and will hurt less if you fall.

  1. Start by running in to the feature with a good amount of speed, enough that would normally get you a couple of feet of air at least.
  2. This is where you need to commit to the trick. As you get to the top of the feature you need to lean down hill, reaching down with your hand, this will send your legs up into the air.
  3. How to Handplant on ski's
